The construction of an oil refinery in Cuba with the participation of major Russian state companies is being discussed in the negotiations, Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Aleksandr Babakov said. RIA Novosti wrote on July 21.
“The topic of possible construction of a refinery was discussed, and in this regard, a possible next step – deeper processing of oil products and including the creation of fertilizers,” Babakov said.
He noted that a negotiation on this matter is underway.
The deputy explained that Cuba has crude oil deposits, emphasizing that it is reasonable “not to import oil products, but to produce them here [in Cuba – Rossa Primavera News Agency]”.
According to the Russian MP, if a positive decision is made, Russia’s largest state-owned companies could be involved in this project.
On July 20, the delegation of the Russian State Duma headed by its chairman Vyacheslav Volodin arrived in Cuba. Volodin was received by the President of the Republic Miguel Diaz-Canel.
