Defence Blog: Germany to send MAUS drones to Ukraine

19.07.2024, Berlin.

German company Donauhstal was granted permission of the German government to produce and export MAUS (DS-M-V1A1) drones for Ukraine, Defence Blog wrote on July 18.

The MAUS UAV can be adapted to deliver munitions at any time of the day and can also be used as a kamikaze drone.

The drone has a modular design and, if necessary, can be equipped with infrared or thermal imaging vision, Defence Blog said. Such a drone can be equipped with anti-tank grenades of Soviet RPG-7 grenade launchers or German Panzerfaust 3 grenades.

The UAV can also carry grenades of 30 and 40 mm caliber and shaped charge shells of 85 mm caliber. In addition, the MAUS has a special mount for quick ammunition installation.

A special feature of the drone is that it is equipped with a frame made of specially treated wood. This solution increases the aircraft’s weight by about 10% but reduces the cost of manufacturing the frame by about 75%.

The factory cost of the Maus is about 1,000 euros.
