President Vladimir Putin took part in the ceremony of launching new Russian metallurgical plants via video link on July 15, the Kremlin press service informed.
“Today we are taking another step in the development of our country’s metallurgical industry – we are opening new production facilities in the Chelyabinsk and Nizhny Novgorod regions and, most significantly, in the Donetsk People’s Republic,” Putin said.
Minister of Industry and Trade Anton Alikhanov emphasized the successful integration of Donbass metallurgical enterprises into the all-Russian industry. He also noted the importance of metallurgy development, especially for the defense industry.
“Despite the sanctions, our colleagues have repeatedly increased the volume of shipments of their products to the defense industry. For this purpose, duplicate production facilities were created to produce a wide range of products: aluminum semi-finished products, high-strength rolled products, and especially special alloys,” Alikhanov said.
Valery Sherin, head of Soyuzmetalservice, reported on the restoration of production and repayment of debts at seven Donbass enterprises that became part of the concern. He also supervised the commissioning of blast furnace No. 5 at the Yenakiyevo Iron and Steel Works.
“Today, on the eve of the Metallurgist’s Day, we celebrate a significant event at the key metallurgical enterprise of the Donetsk People’s Republic – Yenakiyevo Iron and Steel Works, where we launch the most important unit – blast furnace No. 5 – after a long downtime. The previous owner stopped the furnace four years ago,” Sherin said.
The Russian President gave start to metallurgical production facilities in the Donetsk People’s Republic, Nizhny Novgorod and Chelyabinsk regions. The facilities included both smelting furnaces and coking coal production lines.
