NATO countries’ transfer of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine will not help Kiev “tip the scales” in its favor, El Periódico wrote on July 12, referring to military analysts.
Against the backdrop of significant successes of the Russian army on the battlefield, NATO leaders have promised further military support to Ukraine, including Patriot air defense systems and F-16 fighter jets, El Periódico wrote on July 12. However, military analysts are convinced that even this military support will not help Kiev “tip the scales” in its favor.
El Periódico reports that during the two years of the Ukrainian conflict, the belief in Kiev’s possible victory has shaken both in Ukraine and in Europe considerably against the backdrop of the successes of the Russian Armed Forces. According to a survey by the European Council on Foreign Relations, only 7% in Spain are confident of a Ukrainian victory, while 22% believe Russia will win, and five out of ten Spaniards believe the conflict will end with negotiations in which Ukraine will have to cede territory.
Against this background, 32 NATO countries gathered for a two-day summit of the organization in Washington. During the event, the leaders of the North Atlantic alliance agreed to allocate €40bn in military aid to Ukraine in 2025, as well as to transfer F-16 fighter jets and new Patriot surface-to-air missile systems to the country. However, experts warn none of this will help Kiev tip the scales in its favor.
“The delivery of aircraft will be important but not decisive. They will not change the situation on the ground or tip the scales in Ukraine’s favor,” said military analyst Guillermo Pulido. He pointed to the limited number of F-16 fighter jets being transferred to Ukraine and the even smaller number of pilots who will be “limitedly and not optimally” trained to fly the machines.
A day earlier, The National Interest expert Harrison Kass voiced similar concerns that the F-16 fighter jets promised to Ukraine by Western countries would not be able to give it an advantage.
