Iran proposed creating a BRICS information network to counter Western information attacks. Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kanaani announced this on July 13 at a meeting of heads of information departments and spokesmen of BRICS foreign ministries in Moscow, IRNA informed.
Kanaani emphasized the need to launch the BRICS information network to facilitate information exchange among the member countries.
He explained that this network could function to counter hostile forces in the West that hinder the free flow of information within the BRICS, combat fake news campaigns, and address the negative effects of unilateral sanctions.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman noted that media diplomacy is an integral part of diplomatic activities today, as the media is the most powerful tool diplomats use to “disseminate the views, messages and positions of countries.”
He also said that Iran is ready to cooperate with other BRICS member countries to raise the international standing of the alliance by utilizing the country’s media capabilities.
On July 11, at the 10th BRICS Parliamentary Forum, Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf called on the parliaments of the member countries to oppose Western sanctions jointly.
