German media publish Bundeswehr’s operational plan in case of war with Russia

German newspapers Bild and Spiegel wrote on July 13 that the Bundeswehr had developed Germany’s operational plan of action in case of war with Russia (Operationsplan Deutschland, or OPLAN DEU).

“If there is an escalation on NATO’s eastern flank, hundreds of thousands of soldiers must be redeployed. In a secret document, the Bundeswehr is working out a plan of action in case of such a development,” Spiegel columnist Rasmus Buchsteiner wrote.

According to the published documents, it is planned to use highway A2 to transfer 800 thousand soldiers and 200 thousand units of equipment to the borders of Russia. A2 connects Germany’s western border and its capital. It is also planned to develop alternative routes for large military columns in case it is impossible to use the main highway.

Europe is preparing transportation infrastructure to facilitate military logistics in case of an armed conflict with Russia. For example, European standard railroad lines are being developed in the Lvov region of the former Ukrainian SSR. For several years in the Baltics, they have been trying to build the Rail Baltic railroad, also with a width of 1435 mm, which is accepted in Europe, while the railway network in the region has been built to the Russian standard of 1520 mm since its construction.
