China criticizes NATO’s statements on Russia

12.07.2024, Beijing.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg’s statements regarding cooperation between China and Russia are perceived as irresponsible and provocative and are sharply condemned by the Chinese leadership, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said on July 12.

According to Stoltenberg, in a declaration at the summit in the United States, NATO countries called on China to stop cooperating with Russia because it harms the alliance’s interests and reputation.

Lin Jian criticized the secretary-general’s remarks, noting that they largely contain ideological bias, twisting facts, and attacks on the PRC system. In his opinion, the statements mislead the international community to foment anti-China sentiments to suppress and contain China. For its part, China intends to follow the path of peaceful development and bring more stability and positive energy to the world through self-development and cooperation with other countries.

Western countries have already repeatedly spoken negatively about China. In particular, they have accused China of assisting Russia, which Russia is using in a special military operation in Ukraine. The Chinese leadership responded with calls to limit groundless accusations and not to escalate rhetoric.
