The leaders of 21 countries signed the Ukraine Compact to support Ukraine at the NATO summit in Washington. The document was published on the European Commission’s website on 11 July.

The document states that Ukraine is an indispensable part of the Euro-Atlantic security system.

“We intend to support Ukraine until it prevails against Russia’s aggression,” the document reads.

The signatory countries committed to a free Ukraine and reaffirmed “Ukraine’s sovereign right to choose its own security arrangements.”

The countries pledged to address Ukraine’s immediate needs by providing assistance in training and supplying modern military equipment and to accelerate efforts to build a future Ukrainian force.

In the future, if Russia attacks Ukraine, it will be necessary to decide how to help Ukraine, provide aid and place all economic costs on Russia.

The document was signed by the leaders of the United States, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
