Russian Defense Ministry: Patriot SAM system fails to counter modern missiles

05.07.2024, Moscow.

The Patriot surface-to-air missile system (SAM) is not capable of countering modern Russian air attack missiles, said Andrei Semyonov, commander of the air defense and missile defense forces and deputy commander-in-chief of the Russian Air and Space Forces, Rossa Primavera News Agency informed on July 5.

The commander said Russian air defense systems proved to have a high performance during Russia’s special military operation.

“Unlike the prised Patriot SAMs supplied to Ukraine by NATO countries, which, according to the experience of Russia’s special military operation, turned out to be unable not only to protect the designated objects but also to resist modern Russian means of destruction, i.e., to protect themselves,” Semyonov said.

On 20 December 2022, the White House announced the start of deliveries of Patriot SAM systems to the Kiev regime.

On December 22, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, “They say that Patriot can be delivered there [to Ukraine]. All right, let them put them there. So, we will destroy Patriot also”.

On March 29, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky said the Ukrainian Armed Forces needed five to seven more Patriot systems to protect industrial facilities.

On May 14, the mass media reported that Zelensky requested two more Patriot systems from the USA to close the sky above Kharkov.
