US Patriot air defense missile systems (SAMs) cannot fight Russian corrected aerial bombs (KABs), Vladimir Zelensky said in an interview with The Philadelphia Inquirer reporter Trudy Rubin on June 30.
“Patriot cannot fight KABs,” Zelensky responded to a question. He justified this with the cost and rate of production of SAMs. Patriot SAMs cost about $3 million per SAM, and they are not capable of countering thousands of attacking KABs.
“And it’s not just a question of money, they simply don’t produce them that many,” Zelensky clarified.
Earlier, Zelensky repeatedly complained that KABs cause great damage to the Ukrainian armed units, and there is nothing to counter these Russian high-performance guided bombs.
Note that the Russian Army is armed with bombs equipped with universal planning and correction modules (UMPK). Thanks to these weapons, Russian aircraft can carry out airstrikes against Ukrainian army units’ fortifications without being hit by enemy SAMs. These bombs are actively and sufficiently used in the SMO zone.
