Russian society must understand and comprehend the Soviet defeat to the West in the Cold War, because otherwise it is impossible to overcome the defeat syndrome, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on May 30 in an interview to Elena Oya, the editor-in-chief of “ABSATZ.MEDIA” for the “So to Say’” project.
It is vitally important to understand why the USSR was defeated in the Cold War and the nature of the syndrome caused by this defeat, stressed the political scientist.
“If there is defeat in the Cold War, then, yes, there is no such thing as defeat in the Cold War without a defeat syndrome. There is such thing as the Vietnam syndrome and so on. Every time such a syndrome comes to life – it must be dealt with; there are psychological, informational, political programs that ensure these syndromes are overcome,” said the leader of the Essence of Time movement.
Many political trends that are taking place today have resulted from the defeat to the West in the Cold War, emphasized Sergey Kurginyan. The analyst noted that when Mikhail Gorbachev was the president the country signed agreements which in essence resulted in capitulation, and then later the West started finishing Russia off.
The political scientist clarified that the defeat syndrome must be recognized, otherwise it will be impossible to overcome. And, as Kurginyan emphasized, the elites must talk about this to the people.
“Then comes the question, what does it mean to tell the masses the truth? This means that if we tell the masses a lie, we will lose trust. And this is the main thing we have. If we lose or begin to lose trust, then we will not get out of it. And if we tell the truth and restore trust, then we will interpret this factual truth the way we need it. And then we will retain power,” the leader of the Essence of Time movement explained what the logic of the ruling elites should be.
However, what is happening today is not something that can be described as a link between truth and its interpretation, but rather “something quite the contrary and manipulative”, noted Kurginyan. According to the political scientist, this is happening because Russia has been building a consumer society for over 30 years, tailored to the concept of joining Western civilization.
