The Russian Foreign Ministry calls the anti-Russian conference in Switzerland a failure

17.06.2024, Moscow.

The anti-Russian “peace conference on Ukraine” in Switzerland has failed in Moscow’s opinion, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said during a briefing on June 17.

She noted that 160 countries were invited to the conference, including many states of the “global south.” However, almost half of those invited did not come to the event.

The bet on maximizing the involvement of Global South countries did not work. Many of them, despite blackmail, outright threats and scam schemes, <…> ignored persistent entreaties to go to the Alps,” Zakharova said.

She emphasized that no one actually planned to seek a peaceful resolution to the conflict in Ukraine. Instead, the West used the conference for a new escalation of hostilities.

The conference on Ukraine was held on June 15-16 in the Swiss hotel Bürgenstock in the canton of Nidwalden. The conference was attended by 92 countries.
