Kurginyan: A strong regrouping of powers and capabilities is ongoing in Iran

14.06.2024, Aleksandrovskoye.

A serious regrouping of powers is ongoing in Iran, and it is not reduced to the Western cliches about a confrontation between a pro-Western and an anti-Western parts of the national elite, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan wrote in his article for the Essence of Time newspaper of May 27.

This regrouping of powers cannot be reduced to a confrontation between Iranian pro-Western and anti-Western officials. The Iranian elite, as any other one, is involved in a severe struggle for power, Sergey Kurginyan explained.

He reminded that the head of the Supreme National Security Council Admiral Ali Shamkhani has managed to develop tight relations with the Russian elite and at the same time he has gathered sufficient resources in his hands. According to the political scientist, all these resources have now in fact been given to the Khamenei family, and Shamkhani’s capabilities have been almost neutralized.

This is as clear as the fact that two days before the tragedy with Raisi, closed talks between Iran and the USA took place in Oman, and that these talks were aimed at reducing regional tension,” Kurginyan noted.

He stressed that a severe struggle for power between various clans is ongoing. One of these clans is the so-called Mashhad clan, of which Raisi was a member along with the Foreign Minister Abdollahian killed in the same accident.

The leader of Essence of Time notes that after the death of Abdollahian his post during the interim period will go to young Ali Bagheri Kani, the brother of the husband of the youngest and most loved daughter of Ali Khamenei, who was responsible for the nuclear deal negotiations in Vienna.

All this is true. However, in order to describe the extent to which everything goes beyond the struggle between pro-Western and anti-Western groups, we have to take a closer look at the figures who step forward after the death of Raisi and Abdollahian,” Kurginyan explained.

The analyst told that one of such figures is the head of the Iranian judicial system an former head of the Iranian intelligence Gholam Hossein Mohseni-Ejehei.

He is believed to be the real successor to Raisi, and thus of the anti-Western clan that supposedly confronts the Kum clan,” Kurginyan indicated.

He draws readers’ attention to the fact that both Raisi and Mohseni-Ejehei are graduates from Haqqani elite Iranian theological seminary located in Kum.

The political scientist referred to the popular opinion that graduates from this seminary form a special brotherhood since the renown leaders of the Islamic Revolution Qoddusi and Beheshti killed in 1981.

So, where is any pro-Western sentiments of the ones and anti-Western of the others here?” Kurginyan wonders.

Now, the egghead analytical West is discussing something else rather than contradictions between Kum, i.e. mullahcracy, and the IRGC, i.e. reformers (by the way, compare this to the confrontation between certain parts of the CPSU elite and the KGB elite),” the analyst notes.

He told that now discussion even focuses on a special role of the Al Quds structures inside IRGC itself, including the alleged capability of this structure for its own game. Sergey Kurginyan noted that there are even assumptions that the tragedy with Raisi is the final phase of the clearing of the Al Quds.
