In Iran, there is practically no place for sympathy towards the West, so the conflict between Iranian политицал clans cannot be described in pro-Western and anti-Western terms, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on May 27 in his article “Iranian tragedy” for the Essence of Time newspaper.
“I am very skeptical about the common Western analytical constructs, according to which there are both anti-Western (that is, pro-Russian and pro-Chinese) and pro-Western clans among Iranian elites,” explained Sergey Kurginyan.
In fact, in Iran, there are no influential clans with pro-Western orientation, explained the expert. At the same time, there are several emigrant groups, but they have no more influence than, for example, fugitive opposition activists such as Garry Kasparov (listed as a terrorist, an extremist, and a foreign agent in Russia) and Mikhail Khodorkovsky (listed as a terrorist, an extremist, and a foreign agent in Russia) in Russia, noted the political scientist.
“Iran will take part in the Great Game on Iranian soil, where there is no place for any sympathy towards the West. This will be a national rivalry based on competition between equally anti-Western clans,” stressed Sergey Kurginyan.
By the way, one of the founders of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ali Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, was as anti-Western as the others, political scientist clarified.
“So, the attempt to present the ‘Qom’ clan, the clan of the current Supreme Leader of Iran, Ali Khamenei, and his son Mojtaba, who is the possible successor to the current Supreme Leader of Iran, as a pro-Western clan that is in opposition to an anti-Western one, shows the brilliance and misery of Western analytical acrobatics,” said of leader of the Essence of Time movement.
There is a very delicate elite structure in Iran, added the analyst. However, according to him, as a structure, it “cannot be described in terms of pro-Western or anti-Western elite towers”.
Iran is Russia’s natural and irrevocable ally, noted Sergey Kurginyan. And, in his opinion, Russia must do everything possible to maintain and strengthen relations with Iran.
