Imposing a “green agenda” means declaring an energy war on most of the world’s population, Rosneft CEO Igor Sechin said on June 8 during the 27th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum.
“Aggressive promotion of the ‘green agenda’ actually means a declaration of energy war to most of the Earth’s population,” Sechin said.
According to him, electricity demand will grow thanks to developing countries overcoming energy poverty.
“The gap in energy consumption between poor and rich countries is striking. Overall, in the so-called G7 countries, where less than 10 percent of the world’s population lives, energy consumption per capita is almost three times higher than the global average,” Sechin told the Energy Panel during his presentation.
With developing countries in Asia and Africa experiencing rapid population growth, demands to reduce the use of fossil fuels will exacerbate hunger and energy poverty.
“Giving up oil will also mean giving up modern lifestyles. And, on the contrary, for many countries, increased oil consumption means access to the benefits of civilization,” the Rosneft CEO concluded.
