Coal price in EU increases one and a half times due to sanctions against Russia

The price of imported coal in the European Union rose to €184 per ton in March, European customs data showed on June 3.

Before the Western sanctions against Russia were imposed, the cost per ton of coal in the European Union was €120, which is 1.53 times lower than the current cost of imported coal.

The embargo on coal supplies from Russia to the EU began on August 10, 2022 as part of the fifth package of sanctions.

The EU customs data shows that from the beginning of this year to March, the volume of coal purchases per month on average decreased to 5.85 million tons, for the same period in 2021 it was 8.24 million tons, the volume of purchases decreased by 29%.
