Greece sends an officer to Kiev to train the Ukrainian Armed Forces to operate F-16 fighters

02.06.2024, Greece.

Greece has already sent the first officer of its Air Force to train Ukrainian military to pilot F-16 fighter jets, donated by various NATO countries, the Greek news portal defence-point reported on June 2.

The website publication notes the Greek Air Force’s extensive experience and knowledge in the operational use of F-16s, including in close combat, as Greece has been using these aircraft for almost 40 years and has been constantly dealing with Turkey’s aggressive actions.

The presence of the Greek pilot in the Ukrainian capital is apparently part of the initiative of the ‘F-16 Training Coalition’, an international coalition established on July 13, 2023 at the NATO summit in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, to train Ukrainian pilots, technical and support personnel in the use of this type of fighter aircraft,” the website reported.

The coalition originally included 11 NATO countries: Belgium, Great Britain, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Luxembourg, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania and Sweden. Greece joined later – in August 2023 – after Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky visited Athens.
