The European Union encountered problems in supplying military aid to Kiev, including the Czech initiative to supply ammunition, EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell admitted on May 28 before a meeting in Brussels of EU defense ministers.
He noted that things are developing slower than expected.
Borrel recalled that the initiative was launched at the end of February. At the moment – there is information that about 80 thousand munitions will be delivered by the end of June.
The EU’s top diplomat acknowledged that the situation shows that the EU has some to fulfill its promises.
Prague proposed to buy ammunition for Ukraine from third countries. The money for this was supposed to be collected from European countries. It was assumed that the initiative would not require approval from all EU member states and would thus drastically speed up the supply process.
