Serbia thanks Russia for its position on the Srebrenica resolution

Serbia will gratefully remember that Russia and China voted against the resolution on the events in Srebrenica at the UN General Assembly, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic told reporters on May 23.

Vucic spoke after the UN General Assembly meeting, where the vote on the “genocide in Srebrenica” took place.

“I want to thank China and the Russian Federation, as well as the Emirates. Serbia will never forget this, thank you very much also to our Hungarian brothers. And to the Slovaks, Greeks, Cypriots – for deciding to be abstemious,” Vucic was quoted by RIA Novosti as saying.

The politician also expressed his gratitude to the countries of Asia, Africa and Latin America that voted against it.

Yesterday, the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution on the so-called “genocide in Srebrenica”, proposed by Germany and Rwanda. Eighty-four countries voted for it, 19 were against, 68 abstained.

The resolution was opposed by Serbia, Syria, Cuba, North Korea, Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Syria, Mali, Nicaragua, Nauru, Eritrea, and Hungary. Among the abstentions were Algeria, Brazil, India, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Greece, Lebanon, UAE. Israel did not participate in the vote.

“In favor” voted, for example, the United States, UK, Ukraine, France, Germany, Canada, Switzerland.

Russia condemned adopting the resolution on Srebrenica at the UN General Assembly.
