Russian FSB finds large amounts of hexogen in icons imported from Ukraine

Officers of the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) seized a large amount of hexogen and explosive devices, found in icons and church supplies, which were imported to the Pskov region from Ukraine, Dmitry Belotserkovsky, head of the department of the expert forensic service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in the Pskov Region, told reporters on April 2.

The explosive substance was attached to the inner frame of the icons. Explosives and other devices were hidden in the utensils for worship services.

“The mass of the seized explosive substance is sufficient to blow up a five-story apartment building,” Belotserkovsky said.

According to the available information, the man detained with the dangerous cargo was planning to unload in Moscow. The presented footage showed 560 seized icons.

On April 2, the FSB informed about the seizing of hexogen and explosive devices, hidden in icons and church supplies, in the Pskov Region on the border with Latvia. The law enforcers found that the cargo was sent from Ukraine, after which it traveled to Romania, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania, and then it was brought through Latvia to Russia.

It was reported that 70 kilograms of explosives, 91 electric detonators and part of an RPG-7 round were found.
