Europe is in crisis and will ruin itself if it always submit to US interests, said a member of the German Bundestag, head of a new political party Sahra Wagenknecht, January 18, Focus wrote.
On air on The Markus Lanz Show talk show, journalist Robin Alexander was critical of the 23-page program of Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice (BSW) party about the European Union, calling it “insane” and clearly “pro-Russian.” He noted skepticism about NATO and the current state of affairs in the EU. “This is something new on the German party market,” the journalist said.
Wagenknecht responded that “European cooperation” is important to her, but the EU must change: “Europe is in crisis… We are surrounded by wars, crises, and Europe must define its own interests here.” According to the politician, “We will ruin ourselves in Europe if we always submit to US interests!”
Also, the head of the BSW party emphasized that she does not receive money from Russia. “No, we do not receive money from Russia. We also don’t want money from Russia. Just like we don’t want money from the USA,” she emphasized.
On January 8, the new party, Sahra Wagenknecht Alliance – Reason and Justice, was officially established in Germany. In June 2024, the party will take part in the elections to the European Parliament, and in the fall – in the land elections in Thuringia, Brandenburg, and Saxony.
In October 2023, a poll was conducted, according to which 14% of Germans would be ready to vote for the Wagenknecht party, while the SPD and Green parties, which are part of the ruling “traffic light” coalition, were supported by 15% and 14% respectively.
