Poland agrees to deploy German troops in the country to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank, Polish Deputy Foreign Minister Andrzej Szejna said in an interview with Rzeczpospolita on January 15.
In his interview, Andrzej Schein said, “When the war is underway at our eastern border, any help and cooperation from our allies is welcomed as much as possible. So, if the Germans want to strengthen NATO’s eastern flank in Poland, as they did in Lithuania, they are welcome.”
The diplomat also urged the Polish authorities to be ready for a new wave of refugees from Ukrainian territory. At the same time, he emphasized that about 1.5 million Ukrainian citizens were currently staying in the country.
In addition, the Polish deputy foreign minister said that “we cannot rule out that the Russian offensive will lead to a shift of the front to the West and to the fact that millions more Ukrainians will appear in Poland”.
About 10,000 US soldiers are already on the territory of Poland.
Earlier, Szejna said that the topic of the bilateral agenda of Polish-German relations, for the damage inflicted on Poland during World War II, continues to be relevant.
