Russian media: NATO fighter jets took part in attacks on Crimea

05.01.2024, Moscow.

NATO F-16 fighter jets flown by foreign pilots took part in attacks on Crimea, Voyennoye Delo wrote on January 5.

It is reported that in one of the latest attacks on Crimea, in addition to Ukrainian Su-24 bombers, NATO F-16 fighter jets struck from the airspace of Romania.

“NATO was involved in attempted strikes on Crimea. One of the latest attacks was carried out by Ukrainian Su-24 bombers from Ukrainian territory and F-16 fighter jets that fired missiles from Romanian airspace. Foreign pilots were in the cockpits of the F-16s,” the newspaper said.

On January 4, the Ukrainian armed units attempted to strike the territory of Crimea with the help of aircraft-guided missiles. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the air defense forces shot down ten missiles.

In the fall of 2023, US F-16 fighter jets were deployed to Romania to train pilots from Ukraine. These machines are not yet in service with the Ukrainian army. Commenting on this transfer, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that if these F-16s were used against Russia from air bases in Romania, Slovakia or Poland, Moscow would consider it as the beginning of direct involvement in the conflict in these countries.
