272 people were awarded the title Hero of Russia during the special military operation in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry informed in an information summary on January 5.
The Defense Ministry also noted that 320,000 people received state awards and another 363,000 received ministry’s awards.
On January 2 at a meeting with the military at the Vishnevsky military hospital, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia holds the strategic initiative in the zone of Russia’s special military operation.
“If you look at the results of the year, the most important thing is that you are keeping everything under your control at the front and, moreover, practically the strategic initiative is in our hands today,” Putin said, addressing the servicemen.
According to him, Russia does not want to fight indefinitely, but is not going to give up its positions either. Moscow wants to end the conflict as soon as possible, but only on its own terms, the Russian leader added.
