German Foreign Ministry promises financial aid to Ukraine despite Hungary’s position

29.12.2023, Berlin.

Ukraine will “in any case” receive financial aid from the European Union despite Hungary’s opposition, German Foreign Ministry spokesman said, the German Bild wrote on December 28.

“The EU will continue to support Ukraine in any case,” he said.

“It is clear to us, as the federal government, that the Ukraine Fund remains the best and most sustainable solution,” Wagner said of the plan to include a €50 aid to Ukraine in future EU financial plans.

The diplomat added that Germany planned to provide military aid to Ukraine worth €8 billion for 2024.

In December 2023, Hungary blocked the decision to allocate €50 billion to Kiev at the EU summit. At the same time, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban skipped the vote on the start of negotiations on Ukraine’s accession to the EU and called the positive decision wrong.
