Russian Security Service warned the Serbian leadership in advance that the pro-Western opposition was preparing riots in Belgrade, Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić told the Pink TV channel on December 25.
“We had data from services that warned about this. First of all, the Russian Security Service provided us with this information,” she said.
Brnabic added that representatives of Western countries ridiculed the data, accusing the Serbian authorities of spreading disinformation. She also emphasized that there will be no “new Maidan” in the country, and only the people have the right to decide how the state should develop through democratic means.
There have been protests in Belgrade since December 18. Opposition supporters accuse the authorities of miscounting of votes in the elections to the city assembly of Belgrade. December 24, activists tried to storm the building of the capital’s administration, but the police dispersed them. Two policemen were injured in the clashes, 35 protesters were detained.
