Czech Republic: Western aid to Ukraine must be tripled for success on the battlefield

The best that Ukraine can hope for without substantial aide from the West is to maintain the status quo. Czech military expert Zdeněk Petráš from the Brno University of Defense stated this, the Českých noviny portal wrote on December 23.

For Kiev to conduct a successful counteroffensive, Western aid should be doubled or even tripled, Petraš said.

“Kiev may soon be forced to enter peace talks based on the so-called current balance of power. This circumstance would constitute an undeniable defeat for Ukraine… In case of a counter-offensive, Western assistance would have to be doubled or even tripled, and at the moment it does not seem that the allies are too inclined to provide such assistance,” Petráš said.

Petráš also drew attention to the weaknesses of the Ukrainian armed units in light of a possible Russian army offensive. “Combined with the weak ability to link the management of operations at the strategic, operational and tactical levels, as well as the limited capacity of soldiers and personnel to ensure the rotation of forces at the front, Ukraine has once again found itself in a difficult situation,” the expert said.
