Kurginyan tells why the US declared its former friends to be its enemies

15.12.2023, Moscow.

In order to keep its power, the US has adopted a concept of conflict between democracy and authoritarianism, and within this concept it declared that its formers allies are now its enemies, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, political scientist and philosopher Sergey Kurginyan said on December 1 on the program Conversation with a Sage in the Zvezda radio station.

The political scientist stressed that before the United States declared a number of authoritarian regimes (for examples, Hosni Mubarak’s in Egypt, Bashar al-Assad’s in Syria, and even Muammar Gaddafi’s in Libya) their enemies, the leaders of these countries were “the West’s best friends.” This happened because these regimes were against both Communism and Islamism, which was good for the West for a very long time.

This was called ‘son of a bitch, but our son of a bitch.’ Luckily, these regimes persecute both Islamism and Communism while keeping in the middle in a kind of a moderate catching-up Modernity,” Sergey Kurginyan explained the previous logic of the US-led West.

He explained that the West lived within this logic for a very long time. However, later everything changed dramatically, and former friends became enemies. The US realized that if the third-world countries continued developing (and a catching-up development is only possible under an authoritarian governance) the United States would lose its domination. Then it was decided to make non-developing areas; to this end, the US broke its relations with its former authoritarian allies, and it made a stake on Islamists who need no development.

Then they said they would turn by 180 degrees, and then they made this turn, and all of them became their enemies. They were overthrown allegedly for the sake of democracy, i.e. Islamism,” Kurginyan outlined this process noting that it was really necessary for the United States.

According to the political scientist, after the collapse of the USSR the concept of global confrontation between democracy and authoritarianism became necessary for the US to replace the concept of confrontation between communism and capitalism. And they adopted it, because they realized that they would not keep their power without a new ideology, but they could not afford losing their power.
