A means of defeating US F-16 fighter jets, which the West intends to supply to Ukraine, is already in the arsenal of Russian air defense equipment, a source familiar with the situation told RIA Novosti on December 7.
The missile in question is the 40N6 missile of the S-400 air defense missile system. When the system works with the A-50U long-range radar detection aircraft, such missiles can hit targets over the horizon from the launcher at a long range.
This makes it possible to attack Ukrainian aircraft immediately after their takeoff from forward-based airfields, the agency’s source said. Such missiles are already being used in the zone of Russia’s special military operation.
Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu said that the troops would need about 20 days to destroy all the F-16 aircraft that the West is going to hand over to Ukraine.
