The first stage of restoration of the Ilyichyovets sports complex has been completed in the city of Mariupol, the Russian Sports Ministry said during the press service on November 14, the Donetsk News Agency wrote.
The press service noted the progress of restoring the sports infrastructure in Mariupol, primarily the city’s major sports facilities. “As of today, the first stage of the restoration of the Illichivets sports complex has been completed,” the press service said.
According to the press service, it is expected that work on the reconstruction of the 50-meter-long indoor swimming pool Neptun will begin soon. The works will be carried out with the participation of specialists from St. Petersburg.
The sports complex Ilyichyovets up to the beginning of 2022 was the largest indoor stadium in Ukraine, which housed an artificial soccer field, halls for wrestling, boxing, volleyball, basketball, tennis, gym and press center. The complex was severely damaged during the battles to liberate the city from Nazi occupiers. It was badly damaged due to the combat in the city. It is planned that the complex will be fully restored within two years.
