Russia’s main “argument of strength,” the use of nuclear weapons, is something the USA fears less with time, the leader of the Essence of Time movement, philosopher and political scientist Sergey Kurginyan said on September 8 on the program Conversation with a Sage of the Zvezda radio station.
The analyst noted that in the issue of our confrontation with the West many Russians follow the verses from Vysotsky’s song “I casually exposed my biceps, an boasted Fischer immediately accepted the draw…” Our argumentum ad hominem is our nuclear weapons, Kurginyan notes.
“What can I say about this? They fear that less with time. About 10 years ago I began to notice that in behind-the-scenes talks, the idea of ‘clean thermonuke’ was increasingly dominating in the US elite, i.e. the thermonukes (thermonuclear bombs) had become improved to an extent when the pollution is not too large. They said, ‘Well, there will be a dozen of holes in place of cities.’”
Besides, Kurginyan noted that behind-the-scenes talks could contain “any kind of speculations,” but what Hollywood makes is a much more indicative demonstration of current trends.
“Holly wood is an absolutely ideological machine, and a very powerful one, it is one of the cornerstones of the US power. And when high-budget films appear showing that ‘well, we have made a few strikes here and there losing some cities in an exchange, and now we will be reconstructing everything,’ and these big-screen films receive huge funding, and this also a sign,” the analyst comments.
Kurginyan adds that the only thing he can say about strategic nuclear weapons is that their full-scale use would mean “the end of the civilization.” “Probably, there are forces in the USA who want this. They are even called ‘dispensialists,’ and they allegedly have certain influence, but they are not dominating. This is why it is out of scope,” the analyst says.
In a situation when nuclear weapons cannot be used while we have to defend our country’s sovereignty, Russia needs to improve its conventional weapons, Kurginyan believes.
“As for tactical nuclear weapons, I want to say that all we need to to is improve our conventional weapons, all these glide bombs etc., and that these devices can be easily improved to match the effectiveness of tactical nuclear weapons, while the use of the latter can only be needed to frighten the world even more,” Sergey Kurginyan comments.
