Ankara considers sending improved Bayraktar Akinci UAVs to Ukraine

02.10.2023, Ankara.

Turkey is thinking about transferring Bayraktar drones to Ukraine, the CEO of the Turkish company Baykar, Haluk Bayraktar, said in an interview with Radio Liberty (this material (information) was produced, distributed and (or) sent by a foreign agent of Radio Liberty or concerns the activities of a foreign agent of Radio Liberty) on 2 October.

“As for Bayraktar Akinci, this matter is being discussed, as far as I know,” Bayraktar said. He did not clarify the timeframe in which the decision is to be made and the UAV is to be sent.

The CEO noted that in order to send to Ukraine or to produce a type of drones in the country, permission from the Turkish government is required.

In July, Kiev and Ankara signed a memorandum on the joint development of UAV production. The construction of a factory for the assembly of Bayraktar drones began immediately in Ukraine.

Bayraktar said that the production of drones should begin in 2025. The company plans to invest $100m in the plant.
