Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs Lavrov accuses the US of creating new military alliances in the East

24.09.2023, New York.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused the United States of creating hostile alliances during a general political debate at the UN General Assembly on September 23.

As the examples of such alliances, the diplomat cited AUKUS – the alliance of Australia, Britain and the United States, the “troika” of the United States, Japan, South Korea and the “quartet” of Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Australia.

Lavrov called such alliances US-controlled military-political mini-alliances. He said that by such actions, the US is pulling the members of the alliance toward cooperation with NATO and expanding its infrastructure in the Pacific.

The attempts to extend the bloc’s area of responsibility to the entire Eastern Hemisphere have become a dangerous manifestation of NATO expansionism,” the Russian Foreign Minister emphasized. He noted that Washington pursues its policy under the slogan of inseparability of the security of the Atlantic and Indo-Pacific regions.

Lavrov called such a statement deceitful.
