Deputy Speaker of Russian Federation Council gives a positive assessment of the talks between Putin and Erdoğan in Sochi

Presidents of Russia and Turkey, Vladimir Putin and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, take a responsible approach to resolving issues as the Russian-Turkish dialogue continues, Deputy Speaker of the Federation Council Konstantin Kosachev wrote on his Telegram channel on September 4.

“The dialogue is working, both presidents are demonstrating a responsible approach, and not only in mutual relations, but also in regards to the general issues,” said Kosachev, describing the overall impression of the Russian-Turkish summit.

Many expected some decisions on the Black Sea grain deal from this meeting, but most importantly, the presidents discussed issues of cooperation between Russia and Turkey, the speaker noted.

“As for the grain deal, the West continues the old game: they deliberately block its implementation in regards to free trade of Russian grain and fertilizers, but they ‘sell’ it to the world as Moscow’s unwillingness to help the poorest countries,” said Kosachev explaining the lack of our cooperation towards restoring the deal.

He reminded of Russia’s proposal, which Putin announced today: to organize the supply of a million tons of grain for processing in Turkey and subsequent free shipment of it to the poorest countries.

According to Kosachev, in the meantime, negotiations are being completed with six African countries where the flour will be shipped.

On September 4, in Sochi, at a joint press conference following talks with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Russian President Vladimir Putin recalled that Ukraine used humanitarian corridors, where Russia provided security guarantees, for terrorist attacks. He said that Russia would no longer tolerate this.

At a press conference, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan called the “grain issue” as the most important, and said that the whole world is waiting for the results of the negotiations. He also noted the importance of transitioning to mutual payments in national currencies.
