Colonel Amadou Abdraman, the spokesman of the National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland, accused France of preparing a military operation to invade Niger on July 31, the country’s national television reported.
Abdraman accused France and allies of planning to strike the presidential palace in Niamey to free President Mohamed Bazoum who was removed from power as a result of the Nigerien coup d’état on 26 July 2023.
According to the Lesahel platform, Abdraman said he got a document in which representatives of the overthrown government requested military assistance from France.
There is a French Air Force base in Niamey.
