11.07.2023, Moscow.

Sri Lanka’s negotiations on constructing a nuclear power plant with Russian Federation participation are going positively, Sri Lanka’s Plantation Industries and Industries Minister Ramesh Pathirana said, RIA Novosti informed on July 11.

“The issue of building a nuclear power plant has been discussed, (the project) is under preparation, it is going on positively – to see if we can move forward in this issue in cooperation with Russia,” the minister said.

He noted that an agreement on signing a construction agreement has not yet been reached.

Earlier, the minister said Rosatom and Sri Lanka want to build a plant with a capacity of up to 300 megawatts, but various options are being worked out. Specialists who can work at the plant in the future have already started training in Sri Lanka.
