Lavrov: Citizens of the Western countries should be afraid of their governments

30.06.2023, Moscow.

Citizens of the Western countries who are “scared” of Russia should rather be afraid of their governments, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said in a June 30 interview with the media group Radio and TV Portugal.

According to Lavrov, residents of dozens of countries should fear, above all, their governments. “There, as if adhering the code of silence, any sensible voices are suppressed, the European Union and NATO are lining everyone up ‘in rank’, according to their rule’,” the diplomat stressed.

Lavrov, referring to the well-known slogan about creating a common economic and humanitarian space from Lisbon to Vladivostok, noted that it “also included a security space.”

“Everyone keeps repeating the same thing as they used to: they ‘have no right to allow Ukraine to lose’ and the only way out of the current situation is to inflict a ‘strategic defeat’ on Russia,” the Russian diplomat said.

Lavrov also noted that all the trade and economic ties created in the framework of globalization, which were advertised as intended for the good of the whole world, “in one day” turned into instruments of blackmail, pressure, racketeering and pure theft.
