Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service: Kiev was preparing a punitive operation in Donbass in March 2022

23.06.2023, Moscow.

The Kiev regime planned a punitive operation against the People’s Republics of Donbass in February-March 2022. The Director of the Russian Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR) Sergey Naryshkin said this speaking to journalists on June 23.

“We have received sufficient information that a decision has been taken in Kiev and serious forces have been concentrated around Donbass to completely strangle Donbass,” Sergey Naryshkin said.

According to the SVR Director, the SVR obtained documents from which it follows that Kiev was preparing an operation to destroy the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s Republics at the behest of its Western masters, which would inevitably lead to casualties among the civilian population of Donbass.

Sergey Naryshkin also recalled that throughout the Minsk agreements, Kiev ignored their implementation and, as Western leaders later stated, used them as a screen to prepare the Ukrainian armed units for war with Russia. This was the reason for the start of Russia’s special military operation, Naryshkin concluded.
