No “Bolshevik ideologist” dealt with Orthodoxy the way Alexander I and Prince Alexander Golitsyn did, said philosopher, analyst, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in an interview with the BelTA Belarusian channel published on March 23.
Kurginyan reminded that in the early years of Soviet rule, the Bolsheviks fought the church as their ideological competitor. In the old days, Christianity fought paganism in such a way. However, not only did the Bolsheviks not destroy Orthodoxy, they restored the patriarchy.
“And when we are told every time that the damned Bolsheviks destroyed Orthodoxy, tell me who restored the patriarchy, dear lovers of Orthodoxy? Did you like the Synod? Did you like Sabler?” – Kurginyan asked a rhetorical question.
“But, please forgive me, not a single general secretary, not a single Suslov, I will not even mention this separate dubious phenomenon, not a single ideologue, no Lunacharsky, no one came close to doing what Alexander I and Golitsyn wanted to do, who were cracking down on Orthodoxy like a cook dices potatoes. Russia could start praying to Bohme during a certain period. Does anyone want to forget that? Do we not remember this imperial period?” – he added.
And this means that all the huge, internal messianic resources of Russia were not in demand during this period, Kurginyan stressed.
Alexander I did not like the Russian Orthodox Church and preferred to discuss the New Testament with Prince Golitsyn in French. At his suggestion, Alexander I met and discussed spiritual topics with Western Protestant and Masonic groups.
At Alexander Golitsyn’s initiative, the Russian Bible Society was established, which included not only representatives of the Russian Orthodox Church, but also of the Roman Catholic, Anglican, Lutheran, and Reformed churches. The Bible society translated the New Testament into Russian. It sought to replace the governance of the Church with the independent enlightenment of a christian by the Bible and by means of a great deal of mystical literature distributed throughout the country.
