Russia has written off debts of more than $20 billion for African countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the plenary session of the international parliamentary conference Russia – Africa in a multipolar world on March 20.
Putin said that trade between Russia and Africa is growing year by year. At the end of 2022, it was about $18 billion. The Russian president also said that if necessary, Moscow will meet the needs of its partners.
“Russia has written off debts of African states amounting to more than $20 billion,” Putin said.
On March 19, Vasily Osmakov, the first deputy head of the Russian Ministry of Industry and Trade, said that in the coming months Russia would open a trade mission in Ethiopia. The issue of organizing a representative trade office in Nigeria and several other countries is also being considered.
