Units of the Russian Armed Forces entered Ugledar and entrenched themselves on the city’s outskirts, Igor Kimakovsky, adviser to the acting head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR), said on January 26 on the Solovyov Live TV channel.
“[The Russian Armed Forces] have entrenched themselves on the outskirts [of Ugledar – Rossa Primavera News Agency’s comment],” Kimakovsky said.
At the same time, the advisor to the DPR head stressed that the task of the units that have entered the city is not a frontal assault on the city, but the restraining of the enemy’s forces.
The main task, Kimakovsky noted, is to encircle the city – similar to what was done in Soledar.
“This tactic justifies itself,” said the adviser to the DPR head.
On January 24, media reports appeared about the intensified fighting in the area of Ugledar. According to the RT television channel, Ukrainian troops lost up to 200 people while trying to organize a counterattack. On the evening of January 25, unofficial information was published that Russian troops had entered the outskirts of Ugledar.
