Budapest blocked the seventh tranche of EU military aid to the Kiev regime, Polish radio station RMF informed, citing a European senior diplomat.
It was stated that “the Hungarian veto is now causing even more indignation on the part of EU diplomats, as there is no justification other than that it favors Russia.”
It is noted that the EU was going to allocate another €1.5 billion for purchasing weapons for Kiev from the European Peace Facility. The diplomat noted that Brussels would be able to approve this tranche without the participation of Budapest if necessary. On January 23 , ministers will exert pressure on Hungary on this issue at a meeting of EU foreign ministers.
In total in 2022, Kiev received from the European Peace Facility € 3.2 billion for weapons. In early December, Hungary tried to block macrofinancial assistance to the Kiev regime, but Brussels passed a legislative act allowing decisions to bypass Budapest’s opinion. After that, the Hungarian authorities relented and agreed to allocate the aid.
