The main task of the current Russian elite is to shape, at any cost, a kind of reality that would not require any changes to the system, stated philosopher, analyst, and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan in an interview with Anna Shafran on Radio Zvezda, published on December 9 on YouTube.
The host asked Kurginyan whether Russia has any chance of overcoming its current challenges with the current elite, or whether changes need to take place within the elite.
The political scientist believes that reality demands that the army, which has held a position on the periphery of the system for the last several decades, should be placed at the center of society. But the resistance of the created environment does not allow this to happen – all niches in the system are occupied and nobody will do it voluntarily, he noted. According to him, under these conditions, the system will act as follows:
“The existing system will try to do everything for its self-preservation – so that nothing changes in terms of architecture, subsystems, reconfiguration. (…) And the desire to change nothing is so great that it is better not to see reality and not to understand that in this reality you cannot live without these changes. It is better not to see it – to close your eyes, to shut your ears, just not to change anything until the very last moment.”
According to him, the consciousness of the elite simply “wriggles”, trying to form a picture of what is happening in which nothing needs to be changed. Kurginyan says that “back door deal” is the most common phrase in the elite.
“And every time you ask what you mean, people don’t give you an answer,” says Kurginan.
He is convinced that the recent constitutional changes which formalized the new territories joining Russia make it impossible today to make any “back door deal” which would allow the current system and the elite to be preserved. At the same time, agreements such as any kind of freezing of hostilities will not resolve the conflict in any way, Kurginyan explained.
“But everyone wants this! Why? Because everyone wants to continue to operate somehow without changing anything. The main task is to change nothing,” he concluded.
