The West needed the Minsk agreements to give the Kiev regime time to become stronger, former German Chancellor Angela Merkel said in an interview with Die Zeit newspaper on December 7.
“The 2014 Minsk agreement was an attempt to give Ukraine time,” Merkel noted.
According to her, it is already obvious that Kiev has not wasted this time and managed to become stronger. Moreover, in 2014-2015, the West could hardly have given the Ukrainian regime as much support as it does now.
Merkel pointed out that any conflicts inevitably end with negotiations. However, she could not say in what time frame the clash in Ukraine could be resolved.
According to her, she will not take part in the negotiation process.
