All festivities in Rostov-on-Don will be canceled as a sign of solidarity with Russian servicemen participating in a special military operation in Ukraine, Rostov regional governor Vasily Golubev wrote on September 14 on his Telegram channel.
City Day events were to be held on September 17-18. Earlier on September 13, the Rostov region celebrated its 85th anniversary. In comments under the governor’s post dedicated to the anniversary date, citizens urged him to cancel the upcoming City Day celebration as a sign of solidarity with Russian servicemen in the war zone in Ukraine.
“Friends, I see all the comments! Decided to cancel the concert and fireworks on Teatralnaya Square in Rostov,” Golubev wrote.
Earlier, the head of the Krasnodar Krai Veniamin Kondratiev decided to cancel the fireworks and performance of artists at the celebration of the 85th anniversary of the region. The same decision was made by the authorities of Sovetsk and Krasnoznamyonsk in the Kaliningrad region. Some festive events on the City Day in Voronezh were also canceled.
