The withdrawal of Russian troops from the Zaporozhye NPP will untie the hands of the Kiev regime, which is ready to commit a monstrous provocation, Russia’s official representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said on August 11, speaking at the organization’s Security Council meeting.
“Those who propose the withdrawal of Russian troops should be aware of the consequences of leaving this facility unprotected and could be used by Kiev and nationalist groups for the most heinous provocations,” he said.
The presence of the Russian military at the station makes it possible to protect key infrastructure and prevent a disaster. Nebenzya explained that the territory of the nuclear power plant is under fire of the Ukrainian armed units.
This was his response to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres’ proposal to create a demilitarized zone around the plant. According to Nebenzya, it is hard to understand what the UN Secretary General means when he suggests this, because if the Russian military withdraws from the territory of the Zaporozhye NPP, it will be vulnerable, including to terrorist attacks.
