The political elites of Sweden and Finland do not think in terms of national interests. Political expert Vladimir Dzharalla stated this on May 21 in a commentary for Rossa Primavera News Agency.
Dzharalla believes that several reasons explain Stockholm’s and Helsinki’s intention to join NATO – the legalization of Russophobia in Europe, the contradictions with Russia and the globalist elite, which have accumulated over the years.
According to the political scientist, Europe is tired of tolerance, and the internal discontent is released through a valve of Russophobia. But there are also historical and political reasons pushing the Nordic countries into NATO.
“Russia’s relations with Sweden have never been particularly favorable or friendly for a number of reasons. Probably since the times of Karl XII and the battle of Poltava,” the expert said. He added that misunderstanding and problems between Moscow and Stockholm have gradually accumulated over the years.
From time to time, relations between the two countries improved thanks to the economy, which sometimes led to very serious breakthroughs.
“As in the 1920s during the first breakthrough of the isolation by Soviet Russia, so it is in current conditions. But nevertheless, it [misunderstanding] still remained,” Jaralla explained.
In the case of Finland, irritation and many problems have also accumulated, said the political analyst. According to him, the media in Finland has managed to form public opinion approving the necessity of severing all ties with Russia and defending the country from it, just in case. And under these conditions, another factor – the domestic elites – played its role.
“Most of today’s elites in the West are not so actually national elites but globalist elites. These people have undergone many years of training, education in international universities at a young age, work in various foundations, many of them do not think of themselves as Swedes or Finns, but as representatives of global Europe,” the expert stressed.
Elites in Finland and Sweden are embedded in the global mainstream, and build their careers on this basis. The elites of these countries are guided not so much by national interests as by a common line, which is now determined primarily by the United States, said the political scientist.
“So, naturally, here the elites have successfully played on public opinion, causing apprehension and pushing public opinion toward such decisions [to join NATO],” Jaralla noted.
