The problem is that the Russian authorities believe that they can withstand the emerging global conflict with the West given the existing condition of the public and the elite, but in fact they cannot, as this is impossible unless Russia transforms, said philosopher, political scientist and the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on May 9 in his Victory Day address.
Kurginyan stressed that contemporary Russia is seriously imperfect in “every molecule” of its being. The current elite can only raise prices, divide the margins, and enrich themselves. What this elite is trying to “make up” is “very particular and dubious, and it cannot do anything else,” the political scientist explained.
Kurginyan noted that the Russian population has largely degraded because of this way of life, and it has become consumerist and relaxed. Educational, cultural, and other programs are extremely poor, and they work only towards people further degrading, but a degraded population cannot withstand the pressure in this situation.
In this imperfect condition, there are simple and reasonably careful heroes thanks to whom Russia is winning in the conflict in Ukraine, the philosopher believes. According to Kurginyan, unless some “mad betrayal” take place inside the Russian elite, many tasks in Ukraine will be accomplished in the coming months. However, this is not sufficient to withstand a global conflict with the West, which has given Russia a death sentence, the political scientist indicated.
“But in the great confrontation, to which, unfortunately, Russia is 100% doomed, only creating a different Russia we can survive, maintain, and change the trajectory of global history,” the philosopher indicated.
The political scientist’s disagreement with the officials of Russia’s current authorities is about the authorities’ confidence that they have built a system that the country needs to withstand a global conflict. In the political scientist’s opinion, however, this is not the case at all. Maybe, Russia in its current condition can “deal” with Ukraine, but it will not withstand a global historical conflict, the philosopher believes.
“A transcendence is necessary. Transcendence or death. A self-transformation or death within ten years. And not on the fields of Ukraine, but in an absolutely different sense. This will unfold differently,” Kurginyan concluded.
The entire national elite consists of people who want to and can reproduce only the current algorithms of life, which are deadly for the country in the current situation. Therefore, on the one hand, the need for a transformation of the country has to be indicated, and on the other hand, this imperfect power system needs to be supported to avoid its collapse, which would ruin the country, Kurginyan explained.
“This is controversial, this is painful, this is extremely difficult, but this is the only thing that is possible. And we need to work for this transcendence,” the political scientist said.
According to Kurginyan, this transformation will be made not on the glamorous streets of Moscow, but deep in the country, by civil enthusiasts, not by “officials pouting their lips.”
“And since there is no other option, this will be accomplished. And we should work for this, understanding that this is almost desperate, and that it is all based on faith. A faith in Russia, a reasonable and strong-willed one,” Kurginyan concluded.
He added, “A faith that the essence will emerge out of all this dirt, and a purification will take place, and that a new, different, and good life is coming, and a part of it is what is now taking place in Ukraine, and what is closely tied with blood to the great victory of our ancestors in the Great Patriotic War.”
