The US is escalating tensions in Ukraine in order to put Russia in a situation where it has to respond, said philosopher, political scientist, the leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan on January 25 in The Meaning of the Game on the movement’s YouTube channel.
Not a single faction among the Russian elite: neither patriotic, nor centrist, nor liberal, wants to invade Ukraine, said Kurginyan. It is impossible to imagine such an invasion. However, in the US they are “screaming bloody murder”. This was not the case either during the reunification of Crimea with Russia, or during the events in Donbass, points out the political scientist.
According to him, such a large and expensive information campaign is being carried out because “the US want to put us in a situation where we cannot help but make a move, one way or another.“
The current situation may develop further in several possible ways, believes Kurginyan. Firstly, Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky may be given an order to attack the city of Donetsk and Lugansk with tanks and radical nationalists, and blood will spill. Then Russia would have no choice but to respond, otherwise its political system will collapse, or lose 90% of its approval.
According to another scenario, “softer” and more dangerous, Ukraine will de facto be accepted into NATO. “But this would be a fundamentally unacceptable situation for the Russian elites: missile launchers in in the cities of Kharkov and Dnepropetrovsk, the US strategic arms installations, no one will accept this,” believes the political scientist.
“Then everything comes together. In essence, the US government is aware of the fact that they have every opportunity in their hands to provoke the Russians into retaliatory actions, or, more precisely, to put them, the Russians, in a situation where they cannot help but carry out these actions. They know that this lever, this button is in their hands, and therefore they shout preemptively that there will be a conflict, knowing that they control it and that they will launch it.
Then a lot becomes clear. It is understandable why the Western information and propaganda campaign is carried out with such a force, which has not been seen in recent years.
It is organized in such a way that after a certain act is committed, to which the Russians must respond, they say, ‘Here we are, we warned you that the Russians will later say that they were provoked and so on. Don’t trust them!’ The image, the perception of what is happening by the Western and global public has been created in advance to meet the standards that the enemy needs.”
According to Kurginyan, the situation at hand is very complex and he wants to be confident that the Russian authorities will act adequately, which is difficult, when most of the elites still hope that Russia and the Russian elite will be accepted into the Western world.
