Inappropriate rapprochement between Russia and the West is a means of eliminating Russia, political analyst and leader of the Essence of Time movement Sergey Kurginyan said on February 12 in the Politkukhnya program on the Donetsk TK Union channel.
“The West has one well known means of eliminating Russia – inappropriate rapprochement,” said Kurginyan.
The political scientist reminded that the Soviet Union was destroyed neither by the Cold War, nor the Stalin era, nor in the post-Stalin era. The USSR’s destruction was launched when the elite decided to seek rapprochement with the West.
“They closed the distance and then – bang – and everything collapsed,” Kurginyan explained.
Among the Communist Party and KGB leaders there was a pro-Western group led by Yuri Andropov, who was then the head of the KGB. Since the mid-1970s he had been implementing a plan to “enter Europe”. The Soviet Union was supposed to “free itself” from the “dead weight” of remote areas and republics, remove the CPSU’s power vertical, implement pseudo-democratic changes, and join Europe. The Soviet Union, with its nuclear “umbrella”, army, resources and territory would then become, according to pro-Western elite’s plans, the dominant country in Europe. For the sake of joining Europe, the Soviet Union was destroyed.
The Western-oriented part of the Russian elite has now lost the support of population, but its position in Russian government is still strong.
